An hourly wage is an antiquated concept

While the line is intended to be humorous, there is some truth to what the legendary comedian has stated here. Chances are an hourly wage job will not make you rich (or happy). By its nature, an hourly wage job is limiting. You are only able to make so much money based upon so many hours worked. The obvious exception of course would be to work extra hours. However, you then become time poor which is certainly not a wise trade.

So how do you break the cycle of an hourly wage job when that’s all that is out there? It’s simple: don’t look out there. Look inside. Create a job. Perform a service or provide information or create something altogether new that is not restricted by the outdated hourly wage concept.

Now if only someone had the secret to finding the time to become an entrepreneur when you have two pre-K children! And, no, the whole “if you want it you’ll find the time” concept doesn’t work here!

I think the “trick” is to find a means to generate more money while consuming less of your time. Nobody wants to be time poor.

I feel your pain, Steven. I have one starting Kindergarten this year and a 1 year old. I find that I basically have to neglect them at times just to make time for the things I should be doing (maintenance on the house, mowing grass, cleaning, laundry, etc). How, then, do I find time for the things I simply want to do….or to figure out how to generate more income on my own to free myself from the corporate world? It’s one hell of a Catch-22 situation we find ourselves in today.

@Rhinosaurus_Flex – Our backyard looks like a jungle right now! This morning I came out of the laundry room just in time to see my 18 month old son dancing on the kitchen table. Normally I would have just taken him down and scolded him. This time was different. He had just taken his diaper off after going poo. I think children are the reason why beer was invented. As for income, I’m thinking of taking a sales job that generates residual income so I can spend more time with the family. Now to figure out how to work from my virtual office and not have clients hear the kids in the background!

You find time for the things that are important. Stop watching TV, get off Facebook. At the very least listen to audio books to learn while you are driving or working around the house. If you are time poor then have an outsider (it could just be a good friend) come and look at how you spend your time and how you do some things. Maybe you are wasting time on things and there are ways to get the things accomplished faster. Heck, just planning your day frees up a ton of time.

If you are being paid based on time spent at a job then the only way to make more money is to wait and spend more time on the job. In this case we are always wanting time to pass quicker so that next dollar will tick over. If you are wanting time to pass quicker you are essentially wanting death to come sooner.
